
Doha: Public Works Authority (ASHGHAL) announces closure of Al Khaleej Interchange from Qasr Diyafa Roundabout (near Olympic Village) up to Jaida Flyover, passing through the underpass at Mannai Roundabout. The street will be completely closed for maintenance works for a period of five days from Tuesday, 23/06/2009 until Saturday, 27/06/2009. The maintenance work includes complete replacement of the asphalt layer on the street. Recently, a partial closure was implemented applied on Majlis Taawn Street between Oryx Roundabout and Barzan Signal, where the maintenance work is on progress. Both the streets are to be renovated by Saturday, 27/06/2009, the Road Operation and Maintenance Department at Ashghal clarifies.
The Road Operation and Maintenance Dept (O&M) of the Assets Affairs of Ashghal is the authority for the maintenance of all major streets and roads in the state. The department has recently started maintenance works on a number of streets in the industrial area in addition to the link road from Wukhair to Mesaimeer, Women’s College Street and Ras Laffan Roundabout.
Eng Ahmed Rashid Al Kubaisi, head of road maintenance section clarified that the emergency maintenance works carried out by the O&M department come in the light of ensuring traffic safety. In this light, many major streets and roads have been already renovated including Mecca Street and Maha Street at Luqta, Bustan Street and Garrafa Street.
The O & M dept is responsible for maintenance of streets and roads above 24 meter width. Whereas, roads and streets lesser than 24m width are maintained by the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning. It is worth mentioning that observers of the department conduct daily analysis of the roads, and concerned engineers chart action plans based on the analysis reports. Whereas, issues regarding traffic safety are cleared in consultation with the Traffic Department.
