
Doha: A group of 40 Engineers from Public Works Authority (ASHGHAL) has completed a special training module in road safety that was being held in Education City in coordination with Texas A&M University in Qatar.
The training course included ways to improve traffic safety on the road in the State of Qatar, through the application of effective solutions to reduce traffic accidents. Besides, it also included important factors in road designing, traffic lights, traffic signals and other important factors that play major role in ensuring traffic safety on the roads.
In a special ceremony, Eng Khalid Al-Emadi, Manger of Quality, Safety and Environment Department (QSED) at Public Works Authority awarded certificates to the participants. Eng Al Emadi stressed the importance of cooperation with universities in conducting such trainings and hinted at some important mutual projects coming up. This includes a wider level conference in road safety scheduled to be held in January 2010. Dr Masad and Dr Holsty were among the guests who attended the ceremony to award certificates issued by the university in collaboration with the Texas Transportation Institute. The engineers who attended the course received certificates in two batches on 15th and 16th December 2009 at the university campus in Education City.
Earlier, Mr Mohamed Mahdi Al-Yami, Acting HR Manager at Ashghal has opened the course and asserted the Ashghal management’s commitment to offer the best available training for its cadres to achieve the organizational and professional goals. Dr Iyad Misad, Asst Dean for Higher Studies and Research at the university supervised the training in coordination with Ashghal’s HR Training Coordinator Mohamed Mubarak al Qahtani. Renowned trainers including Dr Nadeem Chowdari, Senior Research Engineer and Dr Geza Pesti, Associate Research Engineer from TTI, Texas, USA, offered course materials. Texas Transportation Institute (TTI), a subsidiary of Texas A & M University is considered to be the biggest center for studies and researches in the filed of transportation. Ever since its inception before 60 years, the institute is contributing with international standard researches to the field of transportation.
It is worth mentioning that since 2003, The Texas A & M University in Qatar offers one of the most important engineering graduate programs in the world in the fields of chemical, electrical, mechanical and petroleum engineering in the campus located in the Education City of Qatar Foundation. So far, the center has produced more than 100 graduated engineers, besides offering studies in other fields including science, mathematics, liberal arts and humanities. The university has a big research project that amounts to more than 50 million dollars, and it is expected that the projects shall contribute solutions to important issues for the State of Qatar.
