Ashghal Submits More Schools and Kindergartens to SEC 

Doha: Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is steadfast to the plan and schedule to complete the remaining for construction of schools and kindergartens as per projects in the previous year.

Out of the 41 schools in the project, 34 have been completed, 22 have been handed over to the Supreme Education Council (SEC) who has already activated functioning 15 of them in the academic year (2008 - 2009). Now Ashghal is coordinating with the SEC to handover the remaining 12 schools that have been completed in full and are ready to be used from the next academic year (2009-2010). This is in addition to another two schools in Daayen that are on the verge of completion and can be used from the start of the academic year 2009-2010.

In order to meet the requirements of SEC, bidding is under way for completion of constructing five schools before May 2010. At the same time, another bid is to be launched soon for another five schools that will begin construction in June 09 to be completed in full by September - December 2010.  Tenders are being prepared for 15 new schools that will commence implementation in October 2009, within the budget for 2009-2010.

On the other hand, Ashghal has constructed 28 kindergartens and 19 of them have been handed over to SEC till date, whereas the remaining 9 are ready to be handed over to SEC so that they can be functioned from the start of the next academic year 2009-2010.

Similarly, two more Kindergartens are to be completed at Ain Khaled by October 09 while another set of 10 kindergartens are to be bidded for tendering in September 09 to begin implementation within December 2010.

Meanwhile, Ashghal is also undertaking maintenance and renovation works for a number of existing schools to cope with the modern standard of schools. Under this package, seven multi-purpose indoor sports halls have been built for seven schools at various locations in Doha, Shamal, Wakra, Ka’baan and Karanah, trying to make it ready for the schools by the beginning of next academic year. 

Similarly, two sports stadiums are under construction for two schools in Doha and they can be used from the beginning of next academic year. The maintenance package also includes construction of Cafetria for nine schools located in different areas including Shahaniyya, Doha and Wakra. These works will be completed by October 2009.

On the other hand, extra classrooms are also built under the maintenance package in some schools to accommodate the accelerating pupil strength and all of these are expected to complete by end of August 2009, before the next academic year.
