The department of quality, safety and environment in the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is conducting a workshop to discuss the role of testing in the quality projects. The proposed workshop under the auspices of HE the Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning is to be held on Monday and Tuesday, 8 - 9 February 2010, at Sheraton Doha. The workshop aims at study and research in the new mechanisms for all types of examinations to develop project-testing methods, both in mechanism and equipments of testing.
The workshop has been designed ensuring active interaction of participants, with effective discussions between specialists and participants in addition to a proposed exhibition by industry professionals and companies involved in the quality of materials. The third day of the workshop will include field visits to some selected project sites, with inclusion of some of the laboratories in their respective areas and some factories that produce construction materials such as asphalt mixing plants, concrete plants, and display of some mechanisms for field-testing.
The workshop also aims to raise the standard of testing in line with the change of specifications that shall be activated in collaboration with the Department of Laboratories and Standardization at the Ministry of Environment. This workshop is being conducted after the completion of the first phase of qualification of laboratories, after activating their role and adopting it within Ashghal, which gained more reputation and trust within and outside. Apart from specialists in Ashghal and other governmental agencies, consultants, contractors and workers in the filed shall also attend the workshop.
Discussions shall be held on proposals for the development of construction materials for Ashghal projects such as the types of raw materials and asphalt concrete mixtures etc.
The discussion points also include but not limited to: definition of quality and ways to use them in project management, identifying best standards for application in construction projects, definition of quality requirements in order to avoid project failure, ways to track the extent of achievement in projects with the assistance of tools and techniques of quality, adoption of the application of Qatar construction codes in various construction projects and modern test methods in construction projects and adoption of new mechanisms to monitor the laboratory.
Many specialized sectors in Arab world and outside will participate in the workshop in order to raise the quality standard by exchange of expertise. Some of the private laboratories recognized by Ashghal shall also participate in the workshop involving in discussions about the developments in the field of testing and ways of its implementation, in addition to the participation of producers of construction raw materials such as asphalt mix, concrete etc in order to discuss aspects of evolution in these materials.
