
The second day of 12th Gulf Engineering Forum concluded with valuable keynote addresses and papers presented by engineering experts of GCC. The Forum is condcuted at Ritz under the banner "Gulf Engineer and Sustainable Development" during 21-23 December 2008.
The keynote addresses of the second day of the forum handled important topics of interest such as "the role of engineering unions and associations in educating sustainable development" presented by Dr Hasan Sanad of Kuwait University. He focused in his lecture on the basic goal of the engineering associations in coordinating engineering profession. He also pointed out to the need for the adoption of engineering qualifications and classification of engineers by engineering unions, and cooperation with universities and institutes for the development of engineering education. He pictured sustanable development as the center of three rings composed of social economic and environmental development, saying "If we are able to balance between these three, we will achieve sustainable development."
On the other hand, Dr Abdul Majeed Hamuda of Qatar University presented keynote addresss on "engineering research and its impact on sustainable development." Whereas Dr. Abdulla Bafil of Saudi Arabia talked about "the role of engineering and architectural education in the preparation of graduates in the areas of sustainable development." A fourth keynote address presented by Dr. Mohamed Khalifa Al-Kuwari talked about "the achievements of Barwa Company."
The keynote addresses where followed by as many as thirteen theme papers presented by engineering experts.
He added. These include "international environmental policy and conventions and the role of Bahrain Society of Engineers" presented by Ms.Susan Ajawi of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the lecture presented by Ms Huriya al Hajiri entitled "policies and strategies to achieve sustainable development."
Dr Nabeel Mohamed Abbas, Ahmad Abdurahman Goder, Dr Limya Faisal, Ali Osman Najim and Dr Khaled al Emadi are among other dignitories who presented their theme papers.
