Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has implemented new automated traffic signals on Wholesale Market road, between Wholesale Market roundabout and Jazeera Roundabout, in order to link Abu Hamur and Ain Khalid areas, in addition to facilitating traffic flow and to ease congestion on Jazeera Roundabout, where drivers can bypass reverse route through these new signals. The new signal will be activated from Saturday, 30/01/2010.

On the other hand, automated signals will be  activated on Aziziyya Roundabout from Friday, 29/1/2010, with access lanes open on the sides of the roundabout to ease congestion and facilitate traffic.

These changes are made as implementation of recommendations from the Traffic Congestion Committee constituted by Ashghal with representation from various stakeholders including Traffic Dept, Lakhwiya, Municipal Council and UPDA.
 
The Committee is assigned to develop appropriate solutions for ensuring uninterrupted flow of traffic, to minimize traffic jams and to develop an action plan on the requirements of the Committee for future, including identification of the committee’s relevance, assigning the departments concerned for the implementation of such requirements, and coordination among them in this regard, taking into account the future traffic diversions that have been identified by the Infrastructure Affairs. The Committee also conducts post-implementation field assessment to measure its effectiveness.
