Doha: Public Works Authority "ASHGHAL" has decided total closure of Thumama roundabout (popularly known as Kahramaa roundabout) on E Ring Road, in order to complete the expansion work.
The closure will be effective from Thursday (18/3/2010) evening until Saturday (20/3/2010) evening.
The closure comes as part of implementation of the designed expansion of the roundabout by the Traffic Congestion Committee in coordination with the Projects Department at Ashghal. The designed expansion includes expansion of side exit lanes and installation, aiming to reduce traffic congestion, as applied in many other intersections and major streets in the state.
It is worth mentioning that the Traffic Congestion Committee has developed interim solutions for 21 intersections since its inception, in addition to completing 8 new intersections. This includes reduced traffic congestion between Rawabi Signal-Ramada Signal-Sadd Signal on C Ring Road. The Committee seeks to develop a number of solutions to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow in the state by reducing traffic jams, with an action plan that covers present and future traffic needs, assigning the concerned departments at Ashghal for the implementation of those requirements, and coordination among them in this regard, taking into account the future traffic diversions that have been identified by the Infrastructure Affairs.
The Committee also conduct Field Assessment of the traffic on roads in order to measure effectiveness of the solutions.
