Ashghal Starts Implementing Phase One of the Development of Al Khafji Street and Surrounding Streets

6/22/2015

Works will include converting Jelaiha R/A to a signal-controlled intersection, as well as upgrading around 300 metres of the surrounding streets

As part of its efforts to develop the roads network in Doha, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ will start implementing phase one of the developments of Al Khafji Street. Construction works will start on Wednesday 24 June 2015 and will last for about 3 months.

Works on this phase will include converting Jelaiha Roundabout to a signal-controlled intersection, as well as upgrading around 300 metres of the streets surrounding the roundabout, namely Al Khafji Street and the Arab League Street.

Development works include widening the mentioned streets from three to four lanes in each direction which will enhance capacity and allow smooth traffic flow to accommodate current and future traffic needs (as shown in the map).

In a bid to reduce the impact of works on road users as much as possible, one lane will be closed while two lanes will remain open in each direction during the construction period.

Entrance and egress to residential buildings and businesses in the area will also remain open.

All phases of the development of Jelaiha Roundabout and its surrounding streets are expected to be completed in Q1 of 2016.

This project is one of many projects implemented by Ashghal to improve the road networks across the country.

These improvements include converting several roundabouts to signal-controlled intersections and widening some streets to enhance their capacity.
