Ashghal starts on converting the 5km Street 33 in the Industrial Area into expressway

11/22/2020

The new road will enhance traffic in the heart of Industrial Area
The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announces the start of Industrial Area Street 33 Upgrade Project, with a length of about 5 km, and converting it into a highway to provide free traffic flow from 33 East Interchange on East Industrial Street and the Industrial Area Road reaching West Industrial Street.

Street 33 will be expanded from three lanes in each direction to four lanes in each direction to accommodate about 16,000 vehicles per hour, in addition to two new interchanges of two levels will be be built to link  Street 33 with each of Al Kassarat Street and West Industrial Street , respectively, instead of the two existing roundabouts.

With the completion of the project works by 2022, Street 33 will bring about a major improvement in traffic movement due to its strategic location in the heart of the Industrial Area, significantly saving the travel time without the need to use the local streets.

Street 33 is integrated with the Industrial Area Road to connect the traffic coming from Doha towards the Industrial Area and a number of other vital streets such as the East Industrial Street, Al Kassarat Street and West Industrial Street to facilitate access to both Salwa Road on one side and G Ring Road on the other side.

Street 33 will also cause a great traffic flow between the north and south of the Industrial Area and the New Industrial Area through its direct connections with the main local streets such as Al Karajat Street, Al Manajer Street, Al Banaa Street and Al Taqa Street.

New Interchanges
Intersection of Street 33 with Al Kassarat Street
The old roundabout connecting Kassarat Street with Street 33 will be removed and a two-level intersection will be constructed instead, which will contain a traffic light signal to distribute traffic in all directions as well as an overpass that passes over the traffic light to provide free traffic flow along Street 33.

The new interchange is considered an major link in front of those coming from Doha in the direction of Al Kassarat Street and vice versa, to serve many vital facilities and commercial and industrial facilities in the area, especially since Al Kassarat Street extends from north to south of the Industrial Area, connecting Street 1 and Street 52.

The intersection of Street 33 with West Industrial Street
The old roundabout that connects West Industrial Street with Street 33 will be removed and establish a two-level intersection instead, which will contain a traffic light to distribute traffic in all directions along with an overpass that passes over the traffic light along Street 33 to provide a free flow of traffic.

The new interchange is considered an important link in front of those coming from Doha in the direction of West Industrial Street or those coming from Bu Sidra Interchange on Salwa Road, or those coming from Bu Silla Interchange on F Ring Road in the direction of the Industrial Area via Street 33 and vice versa to serve many vital, commercial and industrial facilities in the area. Especially since the West Industrial Street extends between Salwa Road and the F Ring Road.

The new interchange will also facilitate traffic movement in the direction of Al Taqa Street, which also connects between Salwa Road at Al Sailiya Junction and the F Ring Road at Al Bahiya Interchange.

Service facilities
Industrial Area Street 33 Upgrade Project will also include the construction of new infrastructure for water, electricity, communications and treated water lines for green irrigating areas, as well as developing drainage network and rainwater drainage network.
For his part, Engineer Bader Darwish, Asst. He explained that Industrial Area Street 33 Upgrade Project is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2022 to serve many economic and industrial facilities in the area, as Street 33 is a major link between the east and west of the industrial area.

For his part, Engineer Nooh Al Joof, from the Highway Projects Department, indicated that it is planned to rely on national and locally manufactured materials in the project's works by about 80%, such as poles, lighting poles, directional signs, sewage pipes, rainwater drainage, asphalt and prefabricated manholes in addition to concrete and steel.
