As part of its continuous efforts to develop roads in Doha, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ will start upgrading the roads and infrastructure in the Old Airport area to provide the area with the needed services.
The project aims to convert the main streets in the area from temporary streets with no services to permanent ones with all basic amenities such as pedestrian paths, parking lots and sidewalks. The project will also include the development of infrastructure in the area to include the drainage and surface and groundwater networks, street lighting, building a signal-controlled intersection between Al Hurriya and Al Salah Streets, repaving the road, and installing interlock on sidewalks.
The project will be carried out in two phases and construction works as part of phase one will start on Saturday 27 June 2015 for a duration of 5 months.
Phase one will comprise the upgrade of 5 main streets in the Old Airport region, namely:
Al Karama Street, Al Tabarani Street, Al Hussain Bin Ali Street, Al Salah Street, and part of Al Hurriya Street.
The five streets will be restricted to one-way traffic while the opposite direction will remain open. Temporary access to residences will be provided throughout the construction period and vehicles can also use the internal roads of the area as alternative routes
(as shown on map).
Phase two of the project will include the upgrade of 3 additional streets, namely Al Ameen Street, Al Rawdha Street, and Al Tuhama Street. Construction works on this phase has yet to be announced and it is expected that the upgrade of all 8 streets in both phases will be complete in Q2 of 2016.
