Once the first diversion is over, a second diversion will start on Jassim bin Hamad Street south of Al Markhiya Roundabout for only three days.
With the start of a new phase of the conversion of Al Markhiya Roundabout to a signalised intersection, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced two new road diversions on the streets leading to Al Markhiya Roundabout. The first diversion will be on Street 245 (known as Arab League Street) in both directions leading to Al Markhiya Roundabout starting from Monday August 18th, 2014 and for only three days.

Once the first diversion is over, a second diversion will start on Jassim bin Hamad Street south of Al Markhiya Roundabout starting from the end of this week and for only three days as shown on the attached map.

During the first diversion, road users coming from the TV Roundabout and heading to Dahl Al Hamam Intersection can take a right turn at Al Majalis Street to reach Street 245. While road users coming from Street 245 and heading towards Al Gharrafa Interchange (Known as Immigration Interchange) can take a right turn at Wadi Al Wajba Street to reach Khalifa Street.

During this diversion only, road users coming from Al Gharrafa Interchange can take a right turn directly to Street 245. While in the second diversion, road users coming from Jassim bin Hamad Street and heading towards Khalifa Street can take a right turn to Al Wabra Street and then a left to Yanbu Street to reach Khalifa Street. Road users coming from TV Roundabout will also be able during this diversion only to take a right directly to Street 245.

The road diversion is to facilitate the works on converting Al Markhiya Roundabout to a signal-controlled intersection, which started on Thursday 15th of May, 2014 and is expected to last until October of this year. The new intersection will involve four lanes in each direction on Khalifa Street, in addition to three lanes to turn left and one lane to turn right. This is in addition to Jasim Bin Hamad Street which will also involve four lanes in each direction, in addition to three lanes to turn left and one lane to turn right.

Ashghal will install road signs to advice motorists of the diversion. The Authority also requests all road users to abide by the speed limits, and follow the road signs to ensure their safety.
