Al Ahnaf Bin Qais Preparatory School Students Join Ashghal to Plant 60 Trees at Legtaifiya St Project

Students of Al Ahnaf Bin Qais Preparatory Independent School Planting Trees at Legtaifiya Street Development Project

​A group of students from Al Ahnaf Bin Qais Preparatory Independent School for Boys joined the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ today 23 October 2019, in planting plant 60 trees at Legtaifiya Street Development Project, as part of the ongoing campaign “Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees”, launched by the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar.

On this occasion, Mr. Hassan Ali Mohammed Al Mal, Legtaifiya Office Manager at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, praised the efforts of all concerned entities to implement beautification projects, including Legtaifiya Street Development Project, pointing out the importance of the project in providing a pedestrian-friendly environment and adding an aesthetic appearance in this vital area which connects several major and touristic destinations. He added: “We highly appreciate engaging the students in such activities as they enhance environmental values and develop their skills in preserving the environment.”

For his part, Mr. Ali bin Fahad Al Shahwani Al Hajri, CMC Member for the second constituency, said: “We thank Ashghal and all participating entities for their efforts in implementing beautification works around Qatar, and engaging school students in planting trees in order to promote awareness among all society segments on the importance of environmental protection; being everyone’s responsibility.”

Eng. Fatima Adel AlZarraa, member of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, noted that “Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees” Campaign witnessed a great cooperation and interaction from the participating students, and was able to attract the attention of other schools and the general public. She added that Ashghal received a large number of participation requests by schools of various educational levels, which reflects the campaign’s success in encouraging students to actively contribute to the beautification of Qatar.

Mr. Nasser Al-Qahtani, Principal of Al-Ahnaf Bin Qais Preparatory Independent School for Boys expressed his appreciation for Ashghal's efforts to provide school students with the opportunity to participate in the current beautification works throughout the country and see the results in the future, as this will enhance their awareness of their important role in beautifying their country and contributing to the preservation of the environment.

Mr. Abdulla Mohammed Al Hamadi, Champion in Cycling & Resident of Legtaifiya Area, resident of Legtaifiya area, expressed his appreciation of the beautification efforts of all concerned entites, and said: “Works are underway in various areas and in various fields, and we can already see the results of these efforts on ground. It is nice to see our children contribute to the prosperity of their country.”

Student Mohammed Ahmed Al Ajami, one of the participants of the planting event today, said: “I loved planting trees as it is different from the activities we usually do at school, and I liked to participate in beautifying my country and making it green. I’m happy that my school enabled us to participate in this activity.”

It is worth mentioning that Legtaifiya Street Development Project is located in a vital area as it connects many residential areas with important destinations such as the Qatar University, the Pearl, Lusail City, and the Cultural Village "Katara". The project includes green areas covering 34,340 square meters, over 640 trees, and street furniture including rest areas at intersections and public squares with about 60 seats. This is in addition to the implementation of 10 kilometers of pedestrian and cycle paths.

“Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees” Campaign

The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar is implementing “Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees” campaign, which will continue until the end of 2021, through weekly events to plant trees in the country with participation of students from various schools and educational levels, with the aim of increasing their awareness on the importance of preserving the environment and contributing to its prosperity.

The Committee is responsible for five major tasks including construction of central public parks, provision of dedicated lanes for pedestrians and bicycles, development of the Doha Corniche, development of Central Doha, and increasing afforestation and greenery areas, in coordination with several ministries and other entities in the country.
