Ashghal Opens Al Khufoos Street

Coinciding with the start of the 2020/2021 academic year, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announces the opening of Al Khufoos Street with a length of 3700 meters which links between Al Furousiya Street in the west and Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor to the east to serve the areas of Al Murraikh, Al Mehairja and Luaib and facilitates access to many surrounding schools and nearby sport and business facilities.

Al Khufoos Street will improve the traffic movement in the area after its huge development. The street, which consisted of a lane in each direction, has been revamped into a road consisting of three lanes in each direction to accommodate about 10,000 vehicles per hour, which will contribute to reducing travel time to more than 60%.

The importance of the new road is increased by the fact that it intersects with the vital Al Furousiya Street to connect the traffic coming from Al Rayyan and West Doha, passing through Umm Al Jamajim Street, Mehairja Street, Umm Al Tin Street, to Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor and Al Amir Street (Doha Expressway) to connect traffic to Al Sadd east.

The opening of Al Khufous Street will provide a direct traffic movement from Doha Expressway without the need to use the parallel Al Waab Street to reach Mehairja, Murraikh, and Waab reaching directly to al Rayyan and Muaither from the vital roads, as it provides an alternative route to the parallel Al Waab Street, which will reduce traffic pressure.

In the context of enhancing traffic safety pursued by the Public Works Authority, a median has been established separating the two directions of the traffic, in addition to street lighting, smart message systems and road signs. Pedestrian and cycle paths on both sides of the road were completed.

Highway Projects Department Manager Engineer Bader Darwish, confirmed that the opening of Al Khufoos Street at this time coincides with the start of the new school year, especially since there are many educational institutions and schools in the area such as, Al Mujtamaa School for Girls, Omar bin Al-Khattab, Al-Qadisiya Primary School for Boys and Aspire Academy and serves many commercial and sport facilities   such as Aspire Zone and Khalifa International Stadium.

Al Khufoos Street is an important main road

Al Khufoos Street is located in an area that contains many vital facilities such as Khalifa International Stadium, Aspire Zone, Villagio Mall, and the Equestrian Club, as well as the many educational facilities and schools in the area, Al Khufoos Street serves the areas of Baaya, Mehairja and Murraikh. The importance of the street increased by its connection to Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor, which is of a very vital importance.

Opening of Umm Al Jamajim Street

Al Khufous Street is integrated with Umm Al Jamajim Street, which was opened in 2019 as part of the 1,500-meter-long Al Khufous Street development project, which provides direct traffic movement between Al Furousiya Street and Al Waab Street, passing through Al Khufous Street.

Umm Al Jamajim Street contributed to improving traffic movement in the area after its development, Al Khufous street consisted of a lane in each direction, was converted into a road consisting of two lanes in each direction to accommodate about 8,000 vehicles per hour to also serve the residents of Murraikh, Baaya, Luaib and Mehairja, as well as the incoming traffic movement between Al Furousiya Street, Al Waab Street and the nearby sports and commercial facilities
