The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announces the commencement of upgrading the Wholesale Market signal-controlled Intersection at Salwa Road to improve the intersection capacity of vehicles and enhance the traffic flow at the key junction.

Ashghal indicates that it will add one more lanes to the two lanes left-turn direction leading to Bu Samra from Wholesale Market Street and the direction leading to Doha from Al Sidr Street as well as increasing the left and straight turn lanes from Bu Samra towards Al Waab and Doha, and increasing left turn and straight lanes too from Doha to Bu Hamour and Bu Samra.

Ashghal notes that the new improvements will increase the capacity of the intersection, which contributes to reducing travel time to around 40%.

“Closure necessary”
To enable the construction works with minimum traffic impact, Wholesale Market intersection will be closed to traffic partially for 8 hours, while keeping traffic movement through Wholesale Market Street, U-turn and right turns open in all directions, starting Friday 6 Sep 2019 from 02:00 am to 10:00 am.

During this partial closure which is in coordination with the General Directorate of traffic, road users will be required to use alternative routes as shown in the attached map.

Road users coming from Doha towards Bu Samra can take a right turn to Al Sidr Intersection then make a U-turn and make a right turn to reach Salwa Road

Commuters coming from Bu Samra towards Doha make a right turn to reach Wholesale Market Intersection then make a U-turn and make a right turn to reach Salwa Road.

The Public works Authority will install road signs advising motorist of traffic change and requests all road users to abide by the speed limit and follow the road signs to ensure their safety.
