Completion of Stormwater Drainage Network to Serve Fereej Al Manaseer, South Muaither, Bu Sidra & Al Sailiya

Completion of stormwater drainage network to serves Fereej Al-Manaseer, South Muaither, Bu Sidra, & Al-Sailiya

The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced the completion of the stormwater drainage network which serves four areas in Doha West: Fereej Al-Manaseer, South Muaither, Bu Sidra, and Al-Sailiya until Al Furousiya Street. The newly completed network comes as part of Ashghal’s strategy to preserve the environment and public health and safety.

Eng. Mohamed Al Ateeg, Project Engineer at Ashghal’s Roads Projects Department, said: “The pipe laying works for the stormwater drainage network were carried out at a total length of 4.4 km and a depth ranging between 10m - 18m underground.

The scope of works also involved providing 28 rainwater drainage outlets connected to ground pipes, which in turn are connected to pumping stations, running along Al Furousiya Street, South Muaither Street, Duhail Misfer Street, Rawdat Hubeira Street, then Rass Laffan Street, to tie into the pipeline extending along Al-Ashgar Street and Al Talha Street towards Al Sailiya Street.

They eventually flow into Bu Sidra and Al-Manaseer pumping stations.”
Eng. Al Ateeg also added: “This infrastructure upgrade for the stormwater drainage network serves several areas that are witnessing significant urban development.

The project provides 63 connections to the drainage network pipelines that serve other existing projects in the area, such as Al-Sailiya and Al-Hamm Street Surface Water Project, Roads and Infrastructure Project in West Muaither, Roads and Infrastructure in Bu Sidra and Fereej Manasir, Roads and Infrastructure in Al-Rayyan East, and Roads and Infrastructure in Al Mearad and Southwest Muaither.”

He also pointed out that the rainwater drainage network will reduce overflow during the rainy seasons and facilitate discharging of ponds and rainwater, thereby reducing congestion and the risk of traffic accidents. It will also lower the groundwater level which may damage the foundations of buildings and roads in these areas, and will enable rainwater collection for later use in irrigation, thereby increasing the green space in the city of Doha.
