Boys Rehabilitation Center Students and Qatar Red Crescent volunteers Planting Trees with Ashghal

​​In completion of “Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Plant Trees” campaign held by the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar to “Plant One Million Trees” in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), and in conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) that falls on every 3rd December, a group of students from Boys Rehabilitation Center and volunteers from Qatar Red Crescent participated today 4 December 2019 with the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ in planting trees in Plazas at Al Buhaira Street Project.

The dignitaries who attended the event include Eng. Jassim Al Fakhroo, Ashghal’s representative in the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places, Mr. Mohammed Abdullah, Head of Doha Municipality Parks Section at MME, Mr. Salah Mohammed Al Mahmoud, Volunteer Relations Coordinator along with several volunteers from Qatar Red Crescebt, in addition to Mr. Mohammed Saqr Al-Enzi and Mr. Ashraf Eliwa representatives of the Boys Rehabilitation Center.

At the start of the event, Eng. Jassim Al Fakhroo, Ashghal’s representative in Supervision Committee of Beautification of Rods and Public Places briefed about the project stressing on the importance of afforestation in preserving the environment.

On his part, Mr. Mohammed Abdulla, Head of Doha Municipality Parks Section at MME, said, “Such events instill the importance of participating students in maintaining cleanliness and beauty of streets and public parks in the country.”

Mr. Salah Mohammed Al Mahmoud, Coordinator of Volunteer Relations at Qatar Red Crescent praised the initiative and underscored the importance of participation of all segments of society in the voluntary and humanitarian works to improve the quality of life in Qatar and the world at large.

Whereas Mr. Mohammed Saqr Al-Enzi, a teacher of the Boys Rehabilitation Center said, “we are glad to participate with our children in this event, as we always educate students about the importance of preserving environment, and it is very important to allow them to participate in planting trees”.

Mr. Ashraf Eleiwa expressed his delight in the interaction of students seeing them happy in this event, stressing the importance of educating the community groups on the preservation and prosperity of the environment.

The enthusiasm and interaction of students in this activity was clear from their responses, as in the words of the student Yehia AbdulAziz AbdulGhani:  "I loved planting trees and I wish to participate in this activity again" Whereas another student Ahmed Al Emadi said, " I love parks and green spaces, and I am happy to participate in planting them."

Plazas at Al Buhaira Street Project
Ashghal implements Plazas at Al Buhaira Street Project within the tasks of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, which includes developing 25,000 square meters of green areas as well as planting 222 Trees and Palm Trees.

The project works also include construction of public spaces linking Al Buhaira Street with the University Street, in addition to 1.85 kilometers of pedestrian and cycling lanes to serve the residents and visitors of the area.

“Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees” Campaign
Ashghal is keen to focus on the environmental dimension of its projects and not just the engineering or construction sides, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, which establishes a balance between the economic, urban and social development, and the environmental sustainability. Also it is keen to activate our role in raising the community’s awareness on the importance of preserving the Qatari environment and contributing to its prosperity, as well as encouraging people to plant trees; being the natural lung of the earth.

The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar is implementing “Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees” campaign, which will continue until the end of 2021, through weekly events to plant trees in the country with participation of students from various schools and educational levels, with the aim of increasing their awareness on the importance of preserving the environment and contributing to its prosperity.

The Committee is responsible for five major tasks including construction of central public parks, provision of dedicated lanes for pedestrians and bicycles, development of the Doha Corniche, development of Central Doha, and increasing afforestation and greenery areas, in coordination with several ministries and other entities in the country.
