The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announces the implementation of a temporary closure on Al Gharrafa Roundabout (Known as Immigration R/A). The roundabout will be closed to the northbound and southbound traffic, while the bridge will remain open. The closure will start on 24th January 2019 and last for a period of 14 days, in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic. The closure will be from 12:00am midnight to 9:00am on 24th and 31st January and from 12:00am midnight to 5:00am on the remaining days.

During this period, northbound traffic will be diverted to Khalifa Street and drivers shall make a U-turn at the intersection with Arab League Street to return to Al Shamal Road or continue at Al Luqta Street. The southbound traffic will be diverted to Al Luqta Street and drivers can make a U-turn at the intersection with Huwar Street to return to Al Shamal Road or continue to Khalifa Street as shown in the map. East and westbound traffic will not be affected, as shown in the attached map.

The diversion comes as part of Phase 1 of Ashghal project aiming to convert Immigration R/A to an intersection and to develop parts of service roads on 22 February Road, in order to improve traffic movement and increase the intersection’s capacity. This phase also includes the development of the storm water drainage system, protection of existing utilities, as well as the addition of new lighting poles at the new intersection.

The Public Works Authority will install road signs advising motorists of the closure. Ashghal requests all road users to abide by the speed limit, and follow the road signs to ensure their safety.
