Tender Details:

The general scope of work to be provided by the Specialist Contractor (On call basis) is to design and build a system of deep injection for the disposal of groundwater, surface water run-off and surplus TSE where ever and whenever needed in the entire state of Qatar in general and in the catchments of Doha, Wakrah and Khor in particular.

The system will also be used for the disposal of run of generated through precipitation after some kind of treatment that brings it into the standards of quality suitable for injection. The system, at a certain site, will consist of one or more deep injection wells (400m), two monitoring wells [one deep (400 m) and one shallow (50 m)] and water sampling and physical, chemical and biological analysis according to the requirements of Ministry of Environment (MoE). The tentative sites envisaged at this stage are about 10 in numbers but could vary on the future requirements to 50. The major sites would be concentrated in the urban areas but some locations have to be selected in other parts of the country.

This injection system may be built on the concept of Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) technologies and techniques. The surplus water of relatively good quality will be injected deep down and will be pumped in future. All hydrogeological considerations in this regard should be kept in mind when designing the system in general and specific conditions should be considered at specific sites. The design of the injection system must be prepared considering injection needs for coming 10 years. This phase will be dominated by injection and it should be in such format that in future those injected waters be available for pumping to supplement irrigation needs.

The services would be required on call basis for about five years. The environmental assessment, monitoring and management would form the integral part of the project apart from the basic construction of the system. This environmental assessment and management procedures should be imbued in the project cycle.

A detailed description of the works is presented in Section C, Project Brief: Part 1 and Part 2.
