As part of its efforts to provide an advanced
infrastructure in all parts of Qatar, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’
announces the completion of roads and infrastructure development projects in Legtaifiya
residential area – Block 2500. The project aims to convert the area to a
sustainable part of Doha city through connecting it with the neighbouring areas
and the main road network.
Project works included building new 4.5 km long
permanent roads with one lane in each direction to replace the unpaved
temporary roads in the residential area between Legtaifiya Street and
University Street. The project also included improving lighting in both
directions and enhancing traffic flow and travel time for all road users. Safe pedestrians’
crossings were also added as part of the project in addition to beautification
works.
Infrastructure development works also took place in
Block 2500, to serve business owners, residents and visitors of the area. This
is in addition to a number of public and government utilities, including the
building of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education which is currently
under construction and will take up a big area in the south of the project.
It is worth mentioning that the project area was
suffering from a surface and ground water overflow problem, which was solved
completely by providing an advanced drainage network. The new network prevents
overflow in the area and dispenses tanks that are not sustainable and has
negative effects on the environment.
Qatar Buildings Company implemented the project with a
value of QR60 million. The project is one of Ashghal’s Roads and Integrated
Infrastructure Projects for Local Areas, which includes tens of projects that
cover different areas in Doha and external areas in Qatar.
