Part of Al Shamal Development Project after completion of main works

​The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced on May 13, 2018, the completion of the main works of ​​Al Shamal Corniche Development Project and opening it to public after being renovated to become a leisure destination suitable for the families and people of Al Shamal Area. The opening took place in the presence of Engineer Hamad bin Jumaa Al-Mannai, Director of Al Shamal Municipality and The project that is located in Al Ruwais area, started on March 2018 and the main works were completed in record time.

Ashghal has been keen to complete the development and maintenance of the Corniche areas in Doha, Al-Khor and Al-Shamal as well as Al Wakrah Beach before Ramadan.

On this occasion, Engineer Hamad bin Jumaa Al-Mannai, Director of Al Shamal Municipality praised Ashghal’ efforts for implementing several projects that contribute to the development of the North Area and provide benefits to its residents. He stressed the importance of Al Shamal Corniche Development Project as a recreational destination that promotes healthy lifestyle. He also Thanked Ashghal for opening the Corniche in a record time.

Mr. Hassan Khalifa Al Faihani, Director of Services Department at the Municipality of North, added that this Corniche serves the residents of the North area, especially after adding many services that enable them to enjoy it with their families.

Engineer Hassan Al Kubaisi, Project Engineer at Buildings Project Management Department said that 26 Pergolas are provided along the beach, in addition to 55 seats that are distributed between the pedestrian walkway and Children’s area 16 wash closets are provided for men and women and distributed along the beach. It is worth mentioning that 50% of the wash closets were allocated for people with special needs.

He added that the project includes providing 2,000 meters for children's play area, which will be completed by mid-June 2018.

The interlock works of the pedestrian walkways has been completed with a length of 2570 meters. In addition, 120 parking spaces have been paved with asphalt, as they are more robust and easier to maintain in the future, covering 7,000 square meters. The irrigation works for the plants and green areas are also done as part of the project.

The project includes planting 450 trees and palm trees in an aesthetic gesture to decorate Al Shamal corniche and provide shades for its visitors. In addition to 183 lighting poles distributed along the Corniche to provide night lighting, the installation of lighting poles is expected to be completed during the first half of Ramadan.
