Opening ​​Al Khor Corniche Development Project before the beginning of Ramadan

Part of Al Khor Development Project after completion of main works

​The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced that the first and second zones of ​​Al Khor Corniche Development Project is opened to public today 14 May 2018 after the completion of the main works. The third zone, which is the last one, will be opened during the first half of Ramadan, The opening took place in the presence of Nasser Bin Ibrahim Al-Muhannadi, Member of the Municipal Council for Al Khor Constituency.

During the opening, Mr. Nasser Ibrahim Al Muhannadi praised Ashghal's efforts to renovate the Corniche and open it to the public in record time, he added that Al Khor Corniche will provide many benefits to the residents of all the surrounding areas and will also be a leisure destination suitable for all people at Qatar.

Mr. Hamad Ali Al Muraikhi, Department of Public Services Manager at Al Khor Municipality, said that  Al Khor Corniche is an important outlet for all Al Khor residents and visitors as well, he thanked Ashghal for completing the work in a short time.

The project includes the maintenance, renovation and construction of the entire corniche that is composed of three zones with an area of ​​about 28,000 square meters. The project started in November 2017.

Engineer Hend Al Mahmeid, Project Engineer at Ashghal Buildings Project Department, stated that the project includes replacing the pedestrian walkway floor, which was made of concrete, with 22500 meters square of Granite and Interlock that contains different designs, shapes and colors. This will contributes to give al Khor Corniche a distinctive aesthetic character. He also added that the Granite has special characteristics that resist salt and weather conditions on the beach.

Considering the importance of having recreational facilities suitable for families, the children's play area will be completely renovated and 3 new areas will be added, to have a total number of 5 areas. The play areas will be opened to public within two months.

In addition, 256 seats and 46 umbrellas will be provided as part of the project. The Public Toilets will be fully rehabilitated and new ones will be provided  for people with special needs. All works related to water closets will be completed by 16 May 2018.

Al Khor Corniche project considered the importance of providing an appropriate healthy environment through planting trees and providing 6000 square meters of Green spaces. The project team coordinated with the concerned departments of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment to plant the areas according to the required specifications. Also, a new irrigation network is built in addition to a new storm water drainage network.

To enable the Corniche visitors to benefit from it at night, 100 decorative lighting columns have been added which will give an aesthetic touch to the overall appearance of the Corniche and integrate with the decorated walkway. The lighting of pergolas was also considered.

The project includes adding 45 new parking spaces to reach 116 spaces, in addition to building ramps to enable people with special needs to enjoy using the corniche and the beach.

To ensure the safety of the Corniche visitors, the old Metal Fence is replaced with a new one, in addition to the renovation of the concrete blocks separating the upper and central areas and replacing the lower concrete wall with a newly built one.

Mr. Abdullah Misnad Al Misnad, a resident of Al Khor City, thanked all those who contributed to the completion of Al Khor Corniche. He added that the Corniche was suffering from poor services and it is now developed to be one of the most important landmarks of Al Khor City and the northern region.

This opening is a part of Ashghal's integrated plan to develop and maintain Corniche areas in Doha, Al Khor and Al Shamal, as well as Al Wakrah Beach.
