The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced that it will implement a temporary diversion on part of Lijmiliya Road, running approximately 2 km in both directions. The closure will start on Monday 15 February 2016 and will last six months. During this period, traffic will be diverted to a newly constructed temporary road with one lane in each direction adjacent to the closed road, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Traffic, as shown on the attached map.

The diversion is required to allow for the upgrade of the existing road and the construction of a new dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction. The new road which is part of Lijmiliya, Leatooriya, and Al Sheehaniya Expressway project will provide permanent features, including; a median island as well as pedestrian and cyclist pathways.

The Construction of Lijmiliya, Leatooriya, Al Sheehaniya project is part of Ashghal’s Expressway Programme, and aims to enhance the traffic capacity and road safety in the area. The project also includes a wide range of works to develop the area’s infrastructure, install Intelligent Transport Systems, in addition to a comprehensive drainage system.
Ashghal will install road signs advising motorists of the diversion. The authority requests all road users to abide by the speed limits, and follow the road signs to ensure their safety.
