12/26/2013

The conversion of Sheraton and Al Dafna roundabouts to signalised intersections will be completed in two phases, each phase will take two months, and the project will be fully completed by the second quarter of 2014.

As part of converting roundabouts to signalised intersections, the Road Projects Department at the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has announced a partial and temporary closure of the Sheraton roundabout and Al Dafna roundabout, effective from Wednesday, 1st January 2014.

Ashghal has previously completed converting roundabouts on Al Corniche Street, Al Markhiya Street and Al Bidaa Street to signalised intersections, namely: Museum of Islamic Art Roundabout, Grand Hamad Street Intersection, Al Diwan Roundabout, National Theatre Roundabout, Ludaihi Roundabout, Q Post Roundabout, Wadi Al Sail Roundabout, Onaiza Roundabout and Lejbailat Roundabout. The works will now begin on converting Sheraton and Al Dafna roundabouts to signalised intersections. The intersections shall consist of three lane dual carriageways on the Corniche Street, three lanes from Corniche Street towards City Centre Mall and three lanes toward Omar Al Mukhtar Street, in addition to the side roads to the right of signals. The work also includes a signalised pedestrian crossing between the two intersections to access the new Qatar International Exhibition Centre and the government entities located in this area without a need to make a U-turn from Al Dafna intersection to enter these premises.

Ashghal works round the clock and devotes utmost efforts to complete the work on schedule. The conversion of Sheraton and Al Dafna roundabouts to signalised intersections will be completed in two phases, each phase will take two months, and the project will be fully completed by the second quarter of 2014.

Partial closure of these roundabouts will come to effect from the night of 01.01.2014 as indicated in the attached map, red coded closures and green coded passages, retaining two lanes open to traffic in all directions with all necessary traffic signage and directions.
