3/10/2021

Existing roundabout that connects West Industrial Street with Street 33 will be replaced with a grade separated interchange
The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announces commencement of building a grade separated interchange within the works of Street 33 Upgrade Project in Industrial Area, linking Street 33 with West Industrial Street.

Ashghal clarifies that the existing roundabout that connects West Industrial Street with Street 33 will be replaced with a grade separated interchange, which includes a signalized intersection to streamline traffic in all directions, and a 2.18 km long to provide free flow traffic along Street 33.

Traffic Improvement
The new interchange is considered to be an important link for commuters from Doha towards West Industrial Street, commuters from Bu Sidra Interchange on Salwa Road, and commutes from Bu Sala Interchange on G-Ring Road towards Industrial Area via Street 33 and vice versa. It shall serve many vital entities, commercial and industrial facilities in the area, as the West Industrial Street extends between Salwa Road and G-Ring Road.

The new interchange will also facilitate traffic movement in the direction of Al Taqa Street that connects between Salwa Road at Al Sailiyya Interchange and G-Ring Road at Al Bahia Interchange.

Traffic Diversion
Ashghal will implement a new traffic diversion on the roundabout connecting Street 33 and West Industrial Street in the Industrial Area. Thus all existing lanes will be open to traffic from Friday 12th March 2021 for a period of 6 months, to allow the roundabout to be transformed into a two-level intersection within the works of Street 33 Upgrade Project.

Intersection of Street 33 with Al Kassarat Street
Ashghal has started implementing a new interchange on Street 33 replacing the existing roundabout that connects Al Kassarat Street with Street 33. The two-level interchange includes signalized intersection to streamline traffic in all directions at ground level, and a bridge to provide free flow along Street 33.

Upon completion, the new interchange will be an important link commuter from Doha towards Al Kassarat Street and vice versa, serving many vital entities, commercial and industrial facilities in the area, as Al Kassarat Street extends from north to south of Industrial Area, connecting Street 1 through Street 52.

Engineer Nasser Al Dalmouk from Highway Projects Department of Ashghal clarified that so far more than 35% of works of Street 33 Upgrade Project in Industrial Area are completed. He also claimed that the new interchange will contribute in enhanced traffic flow in the area, especially as it connects two vital roads in the area, West Industrial Street and Street 33.

Street 33 Upgrade Project
Ashghal is upgrading the 5km long at Street 33 in Industrial Area into an expressway providing free flow traffic from East Industrial Street and the Industrial Area Road to the West Industrial Street.

The project includes increasing number of lanes on Street 33 from three lanes in each direction to four lanes in each direction, accommodating about 16000 vehicles per hour. The works also include construction of two new interchanges of two levels linking Street 33 with Al Kassarat Street on one hand and West Industrial Street on other, replacing the existing roundabouts.

By completion of project works in the second quarter of 2022, Street 33 will bring major change in traffic movement in Industrial Area due to its strategic location in the heart of Industrial Area, shortening travel time and evading use of local streets.

It is noted that Street 33 integrates with Industrial Area Road to connect traffic from Doha towards Industrial Area. It also connects many other vital streets and roads such as East Industrial Street, Al Kassarat Street and West Industrial Street to facilitate access to Salwa Road on one side and G-Ring Road on other side.

Local Materials
It is decided to rely on locally manufactured materials in the project's work to about 80%. This will cover materials such as lighting poles, signboards, pipes of drainage and rainwater drain, asphalt and precast manholes, concrete and reinforced steel.

The upgradation Street 33 will also attain great traffic flow between north and south of Industrial area and New Industrial Area through directly linking with major local streets such as Al Karajat Street, Al Manajer Street, Al Binaa Street and Al Taqa Street.

Service facilities
Street 33 Upgrade Project in Industrial Area also include construction of new infrastructure for water, electricity and communication networks, treated water lines for irrigation of green areas, as well as upgrading drainage network and rainwater drainage network.
