Completion of Construction Works for Treated Sewage Effluent Network

2/8/2021

The network covers Al Kharaitiyat, Rawdat Egdaim, Rawdat Al Jahhaniya, Jeryan Al Saham, Rawdat Al Thamid, Jarry Al Dhabi, Izghawa & Al Froush

The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced completion of all works related to constructing 28-km-long Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) network, which aims to irrigate green areas in Al Kharaitiyat and its surrounding areas. Besides Al Kharaitiyat, this TSE network covers areas like Rawdat Egdaim, Rawdat Al Jahhaniya, Jeryan Al Saham, Rawdat Al Thamid, Jarry Al Dhabi, Izghawa and Al Froush.

Eng. Jamal Ajina, project engineer and engineering projects expert in Roads Projects Department, pointed out that the scope of works included constructing a TSE Network covering the needs of 8 areas north of Doha through extending new pipelines from Al Kharaitiyat in the Al Rayyan Municipality towards Umm Salal Municipality. The project is surrounded by Al Shamal Road in the east and Al Majd Road in the West, as well as Dukhan Highway in the south. The newly constructed network collects all treated sewage effluent water and distributes it to irrigate the green areas, parks and landscapes alongside these roads, as well as Riffa Street and the green areas on either side of the bicycle path, to ensure a sustainable exploitation of the treated effluent to increase the green space in the area.

Eng. Jamal Ajina added that the upgrade of the Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) Network that was implemented included extending 28-km-long TSE lines using fine tunneling technology and the open cutting method. The network was implemented at an average depth ranging between 2 to 5 Meters underground. The works also included the installation of 42 control valve rooms, 49 rooms and wash basins, 32 air valves rooms, 63 distribution rooms, in addition to control valves and communication rooms.

It is worth mentioning that this project forms as a link in the Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) Network between Al Shamal Road and Dukhan Road in North Doha. The project serves several areas witnessing a significant urban growth as it provides and connects TSE lines of other existing projects in the area. It also minimizes the pressure on local water resources including water desalination and groundwater well drilling.

He also explained that this project comes as part of Ashghal’s commitment to encourage sustainability and recycling to reuse the treated sewage effluent.
