H.E. the Chairman of the General Authority for Minors Affairs Plants Trees at Al Shoura Plaza

Participation of the General Authority for Minors Affairs in planting trees at Al Shoura Plaza project
​​The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, joined with the General Authority for Minors Affairs and a number of children today 17th February 2021 in planting trees at Al Shoura Plaza project, within the campaign "Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees" which aims to “Plant Million Trees” and implemented by the Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).
 
His Excellency Mr. Saad bin Nahar Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the General Authority for Minors Affairs, an a number of the authority’s department managers and officials participated in planting trees at the site, along with Mr. Ali bin Sultan Al-Ghanim, member of Central Municipal Council – Constituency 6, Mr. Ezzat Jadoua, a former football player at Al Sadd Sports Club, and Mr. Saadoun bin Hassan Al Ghanim, a resident of the area.
 
On this occasion, H.E. Mr. Saad bin Nahar Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the General Authority for Minors Affairs, commended the efforts of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, saying that the Committee’s efforts are not limited to implementing beautification and plantation projects, but also activating their social role by involving all sections of the society, especially children in preserving the environment and making them aware of their key role in the development of the State of Qatar.
 
On his part, Eng. Mohammad Arqoub Al Khaldi, Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar said: “Involving children of all age groups in planting trees with their own hands is an investment in future generation, which we aspire to be more aware of the importance of afforestation from environmental, health and societal aspects, and to understand their practical role in nation building."
 
Mr. Ali bin Sultan Al Ghanim, member of the Central Municipal Council – Constituency 6 said: “I thank the committee and all those involved in this initiative that plays important role in beautifying roads and areas, enhancing Qatar’s cultural facade and protecting the environment. The most beautiful part of the initiative is that planting the trees is done by the kids of Qatar."
 
Whereas Mr. Ezzat Jadoua, a former football player at Al Sadd Sports Club said: "We are honored and pleased to contribute to the plantation initiative in our beloved Qatar. Tree plantation is necessary from environmental point of view and also for its role in bringing joy and happiness to children and involving everyone in the progress and prosperity of their homeland."
 
Mr. Saadoun bin Hassan Al-Ghanim, a resident of the area said: “Today I joined my brethren in this initiative to emphasize importance of trees being the first building block for building a healthy ecosystem and also to accustom our kids and future generations to effectively contribute in building their homeland, Qatar. Planting tree is indeed inculcation of principles in society as a whole, because, everyone who participates in planting a tree shall be rewarded for whoever sits in its shade, and the reward for the birds that take shelter on it. "

Al Shura Plaza
 
The area of Al Shoura Plaza is over 15 thousand square metres, of which about 12 thousand square metres area green areas include seating areas and trees for shading, and 3 kilometres of pedestrian and bicycle paths, allowing people of the area and its visitors to practice various activities. The plaza also includes over 100 tree of different types such as Delonix Regia, Cassia Gluca, Bucidia Bucidia, and Zizipus Spinachristi. It is worth mentioning that environmentally friendly materials are being used for the project.
Al Shoura Plaza project is expected to be completed and opened to the public next April.
 
Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar
 
The committee works in coordination with several ministries and other entities of the State such as Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar Museums Authority, Qatar Railway Company, Private Engineering Bureau among others.
 
This Committee is responsible for five major tasks including construction of central public parks, provision of dedicated lanes for pedestrians and bicycles, development of the Doha Corniche, development of Central Doha, and increasing trees and green areas.
 
The Committee’s work will contribute to enhance sustainability through minimizing environmental pollution, reducing emission of CO2 through minimized consumption and conservation of energy resources. It will also focus on provision of more public transport options aiming at reduced use of private cars and improve lifestyle through clean and safe transportation. It will also work for provision of healthy environment within residential neighborhoods and places of public gatherings through increased afforestation and landscaping, which will greatly help in reducing temperature in cities.
