Shura Council Chairman and Finance Minister Plant Trees in the Park near Shura Council Building

​​On Monday, 30th November 2020, the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar planted trees in the park near to Shura Council building, in continuation of “Qatar Beautification and our Kids Planting Trees” campaign launched by the Committee in last year, aiming at planting one million trees, in cooperation with Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).

His Excellency Mr. Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, Chairman of Shura Council, His Excellency Mr. Ali Sharif Al Emadi, Minister of Finance, and HE Dr. Eng. Saad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi, President of Public Works Authority (Ashghal) attended the event along with distinguished members of Shura Council.

On this occasion, His Excellency Abdullah bin Fahd Ghorab, a member of Shura Council, stated that he is impressed with the initiative of Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places, which contributes to spreading awareness about the importance of planting trees and increasing green areas in Qatar. He also praised the committee efforts to involve many institutions and entities of the state in the initiative, besides involving children.

On the other hand, Her Excellency Dr. Aisha Yousef Al Mannai, member of Shura Council expressed delight in the initiative saying, “today we planted trees within the initiative of Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in the country.

Planting trees today is a symbol of life, growth and continuous development in the State of Qatar, thanks to God and thanks to the blessed efforts of His Highness Amir, the government, ministers, and their deliveries to this beloved country. We are happy to plant trees today, and we hope that our children and next generation will harvest the fruits of what we planted”.

Eng Mohammad Arqoub Al Khaldi, Chairman of Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar said that “Qatar Beautification and our Kids Planting Trees” campaign aims at spreading awareness about the importance of planting trees, emphasizing the social responsibility of everyone in the protection and preservation of environment. The campaign will last up to end of 2021, Eng. Al Khaldi clarified.

Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar
The committee works in coordination with several ministries and other entities of the State such as Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar Museums Authority, Qatar Railway Company, Private Engineering Bureau among others.

 This Committee is responsible for five major tasks including construction of central public parks, provision of dedicated lanes for pedestrians and bicycles, development of the Doha Corniche, development of Central Doha, and increasing trees and green areas.

The Committee’s work will contribute to enhance sustainability through minimizing environmental pollution, reducing emission of CO2 through minimized consumption and conservation of energy resources. It will also focus on provision of more public transport options aiming at reduced use of private cars and improve lifestyle through clean and safe transportation. It will also work for provision of healthy environment within residential neighborhoods and places of public gatherings through increased afforestation and landscaping, which will greatly help in reducing temperature in cities.
