Start of Roads and Infrastructure Project in South Al Meshaf (Package 8)

The project provides services for 1360 residential plots in South Al Meshaf

​The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced the commencement of works on the Roads and Infrastructure Project in South Al Meshaf (Package 8) which aims to develop internal streets in the area and improve the traffic safety on them as well as upgrade infrastructure facilities to respond to residents’ needs and urban growth in the future.
The project is located east of Al Ghariya Street in South Al Meshaf area and west of The Southern Part of Doha Express Highway and is bordered by Al Wukair Main Road. The upgrading works, will be implemented into four geographical zones which will be carried out successively, where the duration of each phase will be one year. Full completion of the project is scheduled for Q4, 2023.

Eng. Ahmed Al-Obaidly, Head of the Southern Area Section of the Roads Projects Department in ‘Ashghal’, stated that, upon its completion, the project will serve 1360 residential plots in South Al Meshaf area through the provision of upgraded infrastructure services including drainage networks, enhanced local streets and dedicated cycle and pedestrian paths to improve the traffic flow and provide connectivity to public amenities in the area.

Eng. Al-Obaidly added: “The project’s scope of works involves developing a road network with a total length of 20 km equipped with road safety features and street lighting as well as road signs and marks. The project also features a 20-km-pedestrian and cycle track as well as the construction of 1400 car parking slots”.

Furthermore, the project scope includes a 26-km-long foul sewer network, 36 km of surface and groundwater drainage network, 2 km of Treated Sewerage Effluent (TSE) network and 39-km-long potable water network. In addition, new sewage pipelines will be provided and connected with Qatar’s main sewage network. Construction works will also include an emergency flood area with a total capacity of 24,000 m3 to provide proper protection for the entire area against flooding and excess rainfall.

The Roads and Infrastructure in South Al Meshaf Project is being implemented by Al-Tawfeeq Contracting, at a cost of approximately QAR 514.9 million and is part of the New Subdivisions Programme which is carried out by the Public Works Authority and includes a number of development projects across Qatar.
