 Tourism... a Promising Future

"A unique vision for Tourism, and a key factor in the future"
With a unique combination of tourism and economic attractions, Qatar aims to share its culture with visitors from all over the world. The Public Tourism Authority was established in 2000, aiming to organise and stimulate tourist activities in Qatar as well as improving them while taking into account the need to retain the country’s inherent culture and traditions. The Authority supervises all aspects of tourism within Qatar.

The Authority seeks to develop the country as  a place to do business and hold conferences and exhibitions, both for regional and global visitors. This will come as a result of infrastructural and administrative developments such as hotels, travel agencies, ground handling companies and suchlike. Additionally, government institutions are continually consulting with the Authority to maximize the benefits to the economy that come from a vibrant tourism sector.

Qatar boasts a variety of modern luxury hotels and restaurants satisfying all tastes. Roomy shopping malls, recreation options, marine sports, model golf clubs, and much more.

Tourist Attractions:

Doha is considered as the trade and cultural centre of the country, with an intriguing mix  of traditions and modern life.

The Museum of Islamic Art
This is a 45,000 square meter attraction including a library, restaurants, gift shops and all other amenities that you would expect to find at any world-class museum. Opened to the public in December 2008, it showcases a selection of Islamic artifacts, many of which are both ancient and historically significant.

Aspire Zone
The Aspire zone is a modern sports and playground area encompassing the latest technologies and facilities, and includes the Khalifa Stadium, one of the landmarks of sports in Qatar.

Souq Waqif
Souq Waqif was an ancient Souq, since renovated by the Government; it is built using beautiful stones and has narrow pathways and a maze-like interior.

Camel racetrack, Oryx farm and Equestrian Club
There is a camel racetrack a short distance from Doha, and an Oryx Farm that is a nature reserve for this rare type of desert antelope whose numbers in the wild are threatened. Also the Equestrian Club, where one can see – and ride – the world-famous breeds of Arabian horse.

Zubara Fort
Zubarah Fort is a pristine example of a typical Arab fort built using the traditional Qatari technique. H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Qassim Al Thani built the fort in 1938 on the ruins of an older castle that had been destroyed. It was constructed with high, thick walls that would last for countless decades and serve to protect those inside as they sought to defend the west coast of Qatar. Now a museum, the fort is located just over 100km from Doha, in the Zubara region (from which the fort takes its name) in the north west of the Peninsula. It is open for visitors from 8am to 6pm daily, and closed on Friday mornings. There is no admission fee.

El Khor and North of Qatar
El Khor is an ancient city, which is about a 45 minute drive from Doha. The city is known for its harbor and fishing boats and also for the museum that contains artifacts and ancient inscriptions that tell you about the life of the groups that lived in this region thousands of years ago.

Hotels
Hotels in Qatar present high quality and varied services to their guests and numerous options regarding restaurants and entertainment facilities. Most hotels include sports clubs, swimming pools, various sea sports, conference halls, and theaters equipped with the latest technology and telecommunications facilities.  Qatar is currently witnessing the opening of new hotels and resorts with world-class specifications on a very frequent basis, in addition to the luxury hotels currently in place. When Qatar hosted the Asian Games in 2006, there was sufficient luxury hotel stock to meet the spike in demand from the event, and the challenge is now on to ensure that there are sufficient rooms of the requisite quality available when the 2022 World Cup arrives in town!
