The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ conducted a Direction Setting Workshop on Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 within the framework of implementing Contract (5) of the Authority for the provision of consultancy services for ITS.
Along with Major Ali Mohammed Al Mohannadi, Manager of Technical Department, NCC, Ministry of Interior (MOI) and Eng. Jamal Shareeda Al Kabi, Manager of Designs Management (Roads & Drainage Network Projects) for Ashghal, many senior officials from the State attended the workshop representing various authorities, institutions and organizations. These included The Emiri Guard; Lakhwiya ISF; Traffic and Patrol Department of MOI; Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning; Civil Defense; Qatar Olympic Committee; Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee; Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Qatar Petroleum; Qatar Navigation; Qatar Rail; The Ministry of Environment, and Lusail Real Estate Development Company.
Representatives of Dannet Flemming, the consultancy firm, ran presentations reviewing the existing ITS system in the State and discussed developing programs for setting a new vision, mission and objectives for ITS on the basis of the Qatar Transportation Master Plan stipulated in the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The workshop also discussed methods for utilizing advanced ITS technology to better manage the road network, improve real-time traffic management capability, and develop state-of-the-art traffic signal control systems in Qatar.
