Ashghal Completes Works of Community College of Qatar for Girls in Al Kheesa

The new building to cater the need of increasing student capacity and provide distinguished educational services

​The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has completed implementation works of Community College of Qatar for Girls in Al Kheesa area. The facility includes a four-story building in a vast campus with built area of 27,000 square meters.

The new building includes vast areas, utilities and multi-purpose halls for study and practice activities serving all educational process and providing a rich learning environment, thanks to the modern design of the building and several educational means.

On his part, Eng. Ahmed Al Emadi, Head of Educational Projects Section at Ashghal, said that within the framework of the government plan to build and develop schools and other educational facilities, in cooperation with the Community College of Qatar, Ashghal has completed works of the Community College of Qatar in Al Kheesa to cater the need of increasing student intake capacity and providing distinguished educational services.

Eng. Al Emadi elaborated that the design of the campus provides educational, environmental, recreational and athletic amenities for students, as the building includes many facilities as detailed below.

Ground Floor:

8- Labs / Technology Center

First Floor: 

1. 8 teaching halls

 Whereas the third and fourth floors include services such as electricity rooms, 4 service elevators, besides 247 parking slots.

Eng. Obaid Rashid Al Athba, Head of Engineering Support Section, confirmed that all construction works on this project were carried out in accordance with local specifications and international standards and the implementation of this project took about 1.8 million manhours without lost-time injuries. He also pointed out that Ashghal applies all safety measures to ensure workers safety.

Quality, Safety and Environment

Eng. Al Athba added: “Ashghal’s Quality and Safety Department has implemented a new work mechanism to monitor criteria of quality, safety and environment.  Specialists have followed up the project over a period of 6 months, resulting in a simulation of implementing a new work mechanism for all building projects of Ashghal, and the subsequent comprehensive quality audit for implementation works and materials used, without compromising environment protection and worker’s safety.”

Culture and Sustainability

Eng. Al Athba further clarified that the characteristics of local culture are inculcated during the design stage, ensuring its conformity with international fire safety standards.

It is worth noting that the design of the new schools and colleges came in accordance with the highest standards of quality and safety, as design and operational considerations were implemented to achieve environmental best quality standards, keeping the following:

• Creating a system to rationalize the use and consumption of water inside and outside the building

• Protecting the environment during the project implementation period

It is worth noting that Ashghal had accomplished works on the Community College of Qatar (Male campus) in Al Kheesa. The building consists of four floors with an area of 13,650 m2. Also, Ashghal implemented improvement works of 27 schools across the country in a bid to enhance school performance and environment through modifications, expansions buildings, additional classes and better safety by upgrading firefighting systems

The new projects are part of achieving Qatar Vision 2030, as prioritized within Ashghal’s strategy which stipulates that Ashghal is keen to provide integrated infrastructure and public facilities that serve all sectors in Qatar, especially in health and education, as Ashghal has delivered around 266 educational facilities during 2002- 2018.

Educational projects occupy an important place among the projects implemented by Ashghal’s Buildings Projects Department in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. It is remarkable that educational sector in Qatar is undergoing huge developmental phase through the opening of several advanced schools characterized by their innovative services and spacious buildings, enabling to accommodate large numbers of student intakes with high quality of educational services and increasing student capacity in the State of Qatar.
