Ashghal conducts four workshops on Road Safety Strategy

The four sessions discussed development of action plans for ensuring traffic safety, including data research, road safety engineering and traffic culture, and responding to traffic accidents.

The workshops reviewed the existing practices in the state for traffic safety, and discussed ways, methods and strategies for improvement.
 
With representation from all relevant sectors and service providers, the National Committee for Traffic Safety has decided to implement the strategies through various means including public awareness, developing road safety policies and practices, and developing a national strategy for road safety, to realize the foundation objectives of the Committee.
 
The four sessions of the workshop discussed development of action plans for ensuring traffic safety, including data research, road safety engineering and traffic culture, traffic control and law enforcement, traffic insurance, and responding to traffic accidents.
 
For his part, Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah Al-Maliki, Secretary of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, stressed the role of Contract No.6, regarding development of plans of action for road safety strategy on Qatar’s roads.
 
He also presented a brief film showcasing the role of traffic in implementing traffic safety in the context of the massive urban development taking place in the country.
 
The consulting firm ECOM, which is responsible for the execution of Contract No.6 presented a detailed view of the steps taken by the firm to date, pointing out the shortcomings of the system currently in place in all bodies and institutions of the State related to traffic safety.
 
The presentation also gave a glimpse into the best road traffic network practices implemented in more developed countries.
 
Eng. Yusuf Abd El-Rahman Al-Emadi, the Road Operations and Maintenance Manager at Ashghal made the closing remarks, in which he thanked the participant organizations for co-operating with the consultancy firm in the implementation of traffic safety strategies for ensuring safer roads in Qatar.
 
The consultancy firm is to submit its final report on the National Strategy for Traffic Safety to the National Committee by the end of March 2012.
