11/6/2018

Main streets in Fareej Al Nasser, Al Mirqab Al-Jadeed, and Al Sadd as well as 5 intersections will be developed to enhance traffic flow in the area

As part of its efforts to improve the road network in Doha, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ is currently implementing a project to develop the main streets in Al-Mirqab Al-Jadeed, Al-Sadd and Fareej Al-Nasr, with a total length of 7 Kilometers in order to enhance traffic flow and ease congestion throughout the area.

Engineer Mohammed Al Khaldi - Head of Doha City Section, Roads Projects Department at Ashghal, said that this area includes many commercial, residential and health facilities as well as schools and other public buildings. He added that the development of the these streets will help to ease traffic congestion as well as to increase traffic safety and enhance streets capacity by increasing the number of lanes in some streets from one lane to two lanes in each direction. The project includes Al Nasr Street, Al Kinana Street and Mohammed Bin Al Qasim Street, as well as other streets such as Zaid Al Khail Street, Al Basateen Street, Al Seyoul Street and Yasser Bin Ammar Street.

The project includes constructing five signal-controlled intersections. These are at the intersection of Al Kinana Street with Zaid Al Khail Street, Al Mirqab Al-Jadeed Street with the C-Ring Road, and Mohammed Bin Al Qasim Street with three streets; Al Kinana Street, Othman Bin Talha Street and Al Mirqab Al-Jadeed Street.

The project also includes provision of 1550 car parking bays, street lighting, pedestrian crossings, road markings and directional signs to enhance road safety, the construction of seven kilometers of pedestrian paths and installing street furniture in certain areas within the project.

Infrastructure services will also be developed, including upgrading of the storm water drainage system, foul sewer drainage network, constructing a new TSE network to be used in irrigation, and protection of the existing electricity and telecommunications lines.
The project is implemented by “Al Darwish Engineering” company at a cost of around 123 million Qatari Riyals. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.

In order to reduce the impact of construction works on the area’s residents and visitors during the project construction period, the Public Works Authority studied and designed the implementation phases so as to complete the project in the shortest possible time. All entrances to residential areas and commercial establishments will be kept open, and alternative roads will be provided when any closure or diversion is implemented. Ashghal will also install signboards on site to alert drivers during the construction period.

Ashghal requests all road users to abide by the speed limits, and follow the road signs to ensure their and others safety. This project is part of a series of projects that Ashghal is implementing to improve the road network in the country.
