In an interactive atmosphere aimed at enhancing the culture of practicing sports and encouraging community participation, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ in cooperation with Aspire Zone Foundation, participated in the activities of the National Sports Day 2026, which was held in Aspire Park, in the presence of H.E. Mr. Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiya, Minister of Municipality, and H.E. Eng. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Meer, President of the Public Works Authority.
The event included a variety of sports and entertainment activities targeting different age groups, and received wide participation from the Authority's employees, members and their families.
Ashghal’s participation in the National Sports Day annually comes within the framework of its strategy aimed at supporting the sustainable development goals, by motivating the community to practice sports, in addition to its role in developing sports infrastructure, as the Authority contributes to establishing and developing pedestrian and bicycle paths, and implementing projects that support sports facilities and installations, in addition to cooperating with the concerned entities in developing public parks thereby contributing to improving the quality of life in various regions of the country.
Celebrating the National Sports Day emphasizes the importance of sports as one of the basic pillars of public health, and its role in reducing health risks associated with lack of physical activity, as well as being an effective means of enhancing community cohesion and consolidating the values of teamwork, discipline and positive interaction. It is noteworthy that the State of Qatar celebrates National Sports Day annually on Tuesday of the second week of February, pursuant to Amiri Resolution No. (80) of 2011, as a national occasion that aims to spread awareness of the importance of sports and encourage citizens and residents to practice it as an essential part of their daily lifestyle.
