Community College students visit Ashghal’s Centre for Research and Development

Students from Community college during their visit to Ashghal Labs

​As part of its efforts to implement its community outreach programme to keep different segments of the public informed about the current works on the ground, the Public Works Authority received about 45 students from Community College (Quality Section) in Ashghal’s Centre for Research and Development.

During the students visit to Ashghal’s Centre, they met with Eng. Khaled Al Emadi, Quality and Safety Department Manager at the Public Works Authority, and Mr. Ali Al Marri, Head of Laboratories section, who presented an overview of the Centre and its main Labs. This was followed by meeting a number of quality experts and a field tour in the Centre.

A trophy had been rewarded from Eng. El Emadi from Ashghal to the Community College represented by Dr. Khalid Bazid Professor of Public Administration.

Eng. Khaled Al-Emadi, Manager of Quality and Safety Department at PWA, presented a general explanation of the concept of quality and quality control, assuring Ashghal’s Keenness to insure Quality after projects delivery, through the department different sections and labs.

He pointed out that achieving customer satisfaction and maintaining their standards is a measure of the success of quality in Ashghal. He added that PWA is not only completing the implementation of the projects, but also ensuring that these projects are achieved for the desired benefits in the service of road users.

“Ashghal has succeeded in achieving high quality standards after the number of road and school projects opened and delivered in 2017, which have been very satisfied by road users in Qatar”. He added.

Al -Emadi said that Q&S Department has worked on developing the Action plans to achieve higher levels of customer satisfaction, as well as contributing to the development of a new vision for Ashghal to achieve high quality projects.

On the other hand, Mr. Ali Al Marri, Head of Laboratories section at Quality and Safety Department, confirmed that Ashghal provides practical experience to all schools and colleges, including Community college students, in order to support their theoretical studies through living the practical environment of laboratories and quality in Ashghal as well as explaining how to obtain ISO accreditation in various fields of research.

This is implemented as part of the Country Directives to provide all the necessary requirements including  equipment, research and employees to support various government agencies and educational institutions in the country

Al-Marri also highlighted the most important initiatives carried out by Ashghal’s laboratories, such as testing samples at project sites to conduct quality tests through mobile laboratories, as well as the authority’s project to test seawater and measure its quality, pollution and salinity rates in addition to the impact that environmental pollution factors have on it.

Dr. Hani Hussein, Quality Expert, explained the mechanism of dealing with laboratories and monitoring the testing quality through the evaluation of private laboratories in order to verify the quality of their results.
Ms. Samira Al-Ajji, quality control expert at the center, explained the quality monitoring program which is the tests database of the Public Works Authority and which reaches about 50,000 tests per month; these tests are directly categorised and analysed to support decision-making in order to implement projects with high quality.

Dr. Khalid Bazid, Professor of Public Administration at the Community College, expressed his happiness to cooperate with the Public Works Authority within the vision and objectives adopted by the Public Administration section of in the Community College under the patronage of Dr. Ibrahim Al Nuaimi, President of the College and Dr. Abdallah Hazyim, Dean of the College. This cooperation aims at achieving the academic benefit of the students and the practical aspect in the state institutions through identifying the methods used to apply quality in Ashghal, the pioneer in infrastructure projects in Qatar.

Dr. Bazid emphasised the great benefits that the students drew after visiting the various units of Ashghal’s laboratories center: the chemical microbiological laboratory, the materials laboratory, quality control and monitoring of private accredited laboratories approved by Ashghal. This visit helped open new horizons in the study and focused on the important information that students get from such visits, it also enriched their knowledge of quality including quality control, monitoring and other important topics that fall within their studies in the college.
