Completion of Main Upgrading Works on Streets in Muaither and Umm Al Dome

4/24/2022

Upgrading and opening the roads to traffic helped facilitate traffic flow, ease congestion, and improve traffic safety

The Public Works Authority 'Ashghal' announced the completion of main upgrading works on a number of streets in Muaither and Umm Al Dome area, as part of the Road Improvement Works (RIW) Project in Muaither and Umm Al Dome. Ashghal completed upgrading works of 3 km of Rawdat Al Naisar Street, Street no. (1) which is parallel to Umm Al Dome Street, and a new signalized junction. This is in addition to three streets that Ashghal announced completed in the end of Q3 of 2020, which are Umm Al Dome, Al Muaither, and Al Innabi Streets, and constructing 3 signalized intersections.

On this occasion, Eng. Fahad Mohammed Al-Otaibi, Ashghal's Roads Projects Department's Head of Western Areas Section, said: “A total of 12.6 km of streets in the area were upgraded, including Umm Al Dome Street, Al Innabi Street, and Al Muaither Street which were upgraded in Phase 1, and Rawdat Al Naisar Street and Street no. (1) where the main works have been completed recently.

He added: “These streets are among the most vital commercial streets and are considered the most congested in the area. They witness a large number of vehicles on a daily basis to reach local commercial outlets, service centers, public facilities and schools."

Eng. Al-Otaibi continued: “Rawdat Al-Naisar Street and Street no.1 serve many surrounding residential areas on both sides, and enhance connectivity between Muaither and Umm Al Dome area and other main roads, like Al-Furousiya, Al Sedira, and Al-Salam Streets, which in turn facilitate commuting to nearby areas like Al-Waab, Rawdat Al-Naisar, Al-Wajba, Al-Rayyan, and other areas. Upgrading and opening these roads to traffic helped facilitate traffic flow, ease daily congestion, and improve traffic safety."

Work is currently underway to complete some remaining works, including landscape and interlock works in different parts of the area, in addition to constructing a cycle path. The full completion of the project is scheduled for end of Q3 of 2022.

The scope of works currently being implemented involves 25.8 km of pedestrian and cycle paths, in addition to beautification and interlock works.
