The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced that the southbound lane of Jassim bin Hamad Street will be temporarily closed from Jassim bin Hamad Roundabout to Al Rayyan Road as shown in the attached map. The approximately 380 meter closure will start on Friday 18 March 2016 for a period of six months and has been coordinated with the Traffic Department.
Vehicles coming from the Olympic Roundabout (known as Sports Roundabout) and heading West will be able to access Jassim Bin Hamad Street by taking the exit from Al Rayyan Road to Al Yamama Street, turning left into Al Rashid Street and right again onto Jassim Bin Hamad Street. Commuters who wish to access Al Rayyan Road via Jassim Bin Hamad Street will have to make a U-turn to access Al Rashid Street and then make a right turn onto Al Yamama Street as shown in the attached map.
The closure is needed to complete the proposed tunnel that will eventually pass under Al Rayyan Road connecting Al Rayyan Road and Jassim Bin Hamad Street. This Tunnel will reduce traffic congestion on Al Rayyan Road & Jassim Bin Hamad Street and will provide easy access to the residential and commercial areas of Al Masilah and New Al Hitmi.
Ashghal urges all commuters to abide by the speed limits to help ensure their safety and to follow the new signage displayed in the area to guide them.
