The Public Works Authority announced
that it will implement a traffic diversion on the Tilted Roundabout and the
connecting Al Luqta, Hiwar, and Al Gharrafa roads from Friday 11 December to Q3
2016.
The Tilted Roundabout detour will not affect traffic flow in the area
as there will be no changes in the route except the modified roundabout
alignment connecting with existing roads as shown in the attached map.
The diversion is required to complete construction works on the
proposed Dukhan Highway East Project. The works include the construction of a
two-level interchange in the centre of the Tilted Roundabout.
The first level encompasses an underpass along Al Gharrafa Road that
extends south from Old Al Rayyan Street roundabout connecting with Huwar Street
and reaching Jassim Bin Tani roundabout, North of Al Gharrafa. The ground level
includes the construction of a signal-controlled intersection.
Dukhan Highway East project is part of Ashghal’s Expressway Programme
and runs from Al Wajba Palace Interchange (west) to the Tilted Interchange
(east) and along Al Gharrafa Road from Al Rayyan Street (south) to Thani Bin
Jasim Street (north).
The project encompasses approximately 7.5km consisting of 4 lanes in
each direction along Dukhan Highway East, 3km along Al Gharaffa Road and 6
multi-level interchanges as well as service roads and additional lanes on some
parts of the road.
This with Dukhan Highway Central will create a strategic east-west
highway connecting Dukhan in the west with Doha.
Ashghal will install road
signs advising motorists of the diversion. The authority requests all road
users to abide by the speed limits and to follow the road signs to ensure their
safety.
