Salwa Road Phase 2

Brief description

As part of the Expressway Programme, Salwa Road Phase 2 works include the construction of approximately 7 km of dual carriageway along the alignment of the existing Salwa Road. The mainline will consist of eight lanes (four lanes in each direction, separated by a median) with continuous service roads. There are four, two-level interchanges included along this section with the mainline of Salwa Road placed as an underpass beneath the cross roads, to allow free flowing mainline traffic. Four upgraded interchanges with underpasses will help improve traffic flow around the area; Ain Khalid Interchange, Al Aziziya Interchange, Wholesale Market Interchange and Al Bustan Interchange. Other features includes a new positive storm water drainage system, 2.2 km micro-tunnels, surface water force main, firefighting system for underpasses, foul water, treated sewage effluent networks, potable water networks, electrical networks, electrical HV, MV, LV and substations, telecommunication network Q-Tel, Doha city surveillance system, Qatar Armed Forces, roadway lighting, traffic signs, road markings and intelligent transport system.

Benefits
This project will improve travel for road users all along Salwa Road and will become the strategic link between Doha and the Saudi Arabian border. The works also include pedestrian and cycle facilities that will improve safety for all road users. Salwa Road will be a fast, free-flowing route right into the heart of Doha.
