The Enabling and Demolition Scope of Works will be completed in advance of the main contractor appointment for the permanent works under the supervision of the “Design and Construction Supervision Consultant” (DCSC) providing a main contractor with a clean site to work from.
The main deliverables for the Enabling and Demolition Works are as follows:
• Temporary Site Accommodation;
• Temporary Utilities & Services;
• Validation of Completed Site Surveys;
• Site Clearance of all Rubbish & Debris from site;
• Utilities Isolation & Decommissioning;
• Ground Remediation;
• Horticultural Protection of retained vegetation;
• Demolition of all Structures;
• Bulk Earthworks (Basement Car Park); and
• Material Stockpiling on site.
It will be by exception that all existing buildings and structures within the site boundary including elements of the perimeter wall will be demolished in coordination with the demobilisation of the existing zoo. Through the demolition and site clearance there is a requirement to conserve existing vegetation in situ. The retained vegetation will then form part of the permanent soft landscaping completed by the main contractor.
The zoo is presently closed to the general public and the theme park will be closed later this year in advance of the enabling and demolition works commencing on site. The animals and residential staff will be gradually relocated to alternative facilities off site from November 2013 to April 2014. (This will release the release of the occupied zoo facilities in a phased sequence for demolition to be completed by the end of May 2014 in preparation of the permanent works).
In advance of the zoo facility being vacated the majority of the site is available for site clearance, enabling and demolition works to proceed this year in coordination with the operations of the existing zoo and Ashghal Roads and Drainage diversion works
